Cumberland Fell Runners are happy to once again organise the Newlands Valley Fell Races.

Conceived and organised by Steve and Wynn Cliff, these races are an established tradition on the racing calendar. I am keen to continue the fundraising work of Steve and Wynn, so all profits from your entry to this event, this year, will go to support both the local community and Motor Neurone Disease. Cakes & local produce will be on sale along with MND merchandise. Local business are being invited whom I believe will contribute to the day. Event distances - 18.5Km (11.4 miles) with 1100m (3,609ft) of ascent. No cutoffs. Visit https://www.facebook.com/NewlandsValleyFellRaces/ The route covers the Newlands Valley Horseshoe. The first and final sections of the course will be taped and in addition there will be a number of course changes to ensure the event works for the benefit of the land owners and the local community. The 2 route changes from last year will be in place again (The descent from Robinson and The descent from Catbells) Further info to follow. This is an extremely exposed route early in the season. On the day you may be asked to demonstrate you have the mountain craft to complete the course without following someone. Please ensure you can complete the event without assistance. A full kit check will be done at the start, and spot checks at the finish for: Full FRA Kit i.e. waterproof whole body cover, hat, gloves, map of the route, compass, whistle, emergency food. Entry is dependent on carrying this as a minimum Not to carry must result in disqualification. Please note: The organisers may increase this requirement on the day, but in any event the kit specified is a minimum to avoid disqualification. It is still the responsibility of the competitor to decide whether they have the skills to negotiate the course successfully and safely in the conditions in expectation of no support, and if so, to determine what extra kit they may need to take bearing in mind it can take a very long time for rescue to locate an immobile runner
