In 2010, Christian and Niggy went out for a ride like we all do. But this time, they didn’t come home. We organized the Team Townend Challenge in their memory, to bring friends, family and cyclists together to raise funds for our chosen charity, RoadPeace. Every pound of the £75,000 raised by the Team Townend Challenge and associated events to date has gone directly to RoadPeace. The courses take in some of the most scenic and spectacular parts of the Lake District, as well as some of its most challenging roads, including the Whinlatter, Honister and Newlands passes. The 10th Team Townend was worth waiting for with our new Dirty Double route being very popular. So we are pleased to offer you our three routes again. The Classic 22 is a loop including Whinlatter Pass and Newlands Pass with 2355ft of climbing. The Challenge 40 has the same first two climbs as the Classic but then you take on Honister Pass before heading home via Whinlatter from the other side to previously. With 4547ft of climbing. The Dirty Double 66 is all three passes from both sides. That is six passes with 7676ft of climbing. Having stayed with the Challenge route until you are almost back at Loweswater you head back to Buttermere to take on Newlands before heading down the Borrowdale valley to take on Honister again, a climb which many say is the hardest of the six. Your entry fee includes our famous spread of sandwiches and cakes at the finish, and a Team Townend Dinks Bottle. We will comply with any Covid regulations / guidance at the time of the event. Keep and eye out for news on our 2022 Team Townend Party, which we had to postpone in 2020.
