A challenging but fun 10K for Blood Cancer UK and St Gemma's Hospice
Join us on 22nd May 2022 for a grand day out in Leeds! Enjoy a fantastic10k run in the beautiful setting of Roundhay Park in Leeds, in aid of Blood Cancer UK and St Gemma’s Hospice. An undulating, scenic trail will take you through the park’s woodlands, grassland and round the lakes, and even through The Folly. Race Organiser Tony writes: As a youngster, my Dad’s nickname was ‘Lucky’ - he’d escaped unscathed from countless scrapes. I inherited his lucky bounce, having fallen off so many ladders uninjured. My luck held when I was recently informed that I’d had leukaemia for 5 years! I wasn’t fazed – I’d run or cycled like a maniac, virtually daily, for as long as I can remember. And I still do, thanks to some remarkable medication, which has rapidly redressed my wayward blood counts. I’m still running over 6k in 30 minutes daily - in my 70s! How lucky can you get? Unfortunately, the answer is that not everyone with blood cancer is so damned jammy. Many will resort to Blood Cancer UK for support and possibly receive palliative care at St Gemma’s Hospice. Some blood cancers are aggressive with fewer effective treatment options and distressing outcomes. If only research had evolved effective treatments for those cancers too… It shouldn’t be this way. It shouldn’t be a matter of luck. With more investment in research, it won’t be down to a fateful throw of the genetic dice. And that’s where you come in. Over 60 years, Blood Cancer UK has invested over £500 million in research, enabling numerous discoveries, improved treatments and lengthened lifespans. Discovery will happen. You can make it happen and happen sooner. Sign up for the Roundhay Park May 10k now and start raising sponsorships! Set yourself a target - £10, £100, £1,000 – then smash it!
