Virtual 5k

Why a virtual event? Anyone who has any experience of Autism will know that attending a physical event would be very difficult for someone on the autistic spectrum. There are a lot of sensory issues to contend with. The crowded start line, the noisy cheering crowds, people brushing past you and lots of people wearing bright clothing to name a few. Not to mention the anxiety that may be caused by going to an unfamiliar place and running an unfamiliar route. Attending a Physical organised event like parkrun or the London marathon can an unrealistic prospect for many people on the autistic spectrum. This is why virtual events are a great alternative, they are very inclusive as you choose the time (within the limits) and the place that’s suits your needs best. It’s a very inclusive way for people on the spectrum to participate and achieve a medal. It’s for this reason the rudolphrun 5k has been organised as a virtual event in aid of the Little Rainbows charity. All forms of human powered equipment are allowed to be used to complete this 5k eg manual wheelchairs/ hand bikes. The Little Rainbows is a registered charity ( 1121130). It is a parent led support group providing support and advocacy for families with children on the autistic spectrum. They organise activities in the school holidays and at weekends for children and their siblings that are suitable for children on the spectrum. Thay are based in Doncaster.
