Ian Charlewsorth Hartcliff Hill Race 2026

Ian Charlesworth Hartcliff Hill is a BS category fell race on a marked and marshalled course – no navigation or prior experience required, however runners should familiarise themselves with the route. The terrain is a mixture of fields and rough tracks, with three short sections of asphalt road. The race starts and finishes in Penistone, on the playing fields next to the Bowling Club. The course has undergone several route changes over recent years due to parking and access issues but the current course was devised by our good friend Ian Charlesworth who sadly passed away in 2025. The race will raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team. Time: Race registration opens at 18:00 and closes at 18:45. Course details: 4.6 miles/7.4km with 709ft/216m of ascent. Minimum age to enter: 17 on 31 December 2026 (FRA rules). If under 18 and not accompanied by a parent or guardian please bring a completed FRA Parental Consent Form. FRA Rules: The event is run under FRA rules. Runners must read the ‘Principles of Fell Running’ and the ‘Requirements for Runners’ including the recent ‘Rule Changes’ documents. Kit: There is no minimum kit to be carried, please use your own judgement for what you need to carry. Safety: Please be aware that Fell Running comes with risks. Please look after each other on the course. If you see a fellow runner in trouble please follow the FRA guidelines as best you can and let the nearest marshal know. Please take extra care on the short road sections, marshals will be at critical points but are not authorised to stop traffic. Abandonment: Any runner deciding to abandon the race after they have picked up their number must notify the race organiser as soon as possible.
