A brand new trail race alongside the banks of Derwent Reservoir
Some updates for Sunday's race: 1 - The parking is limited at Millshield, please consider using one of the other car parks and using the walk/ or jog over to Millshield as a warm up - leaving enough time of course. 2 - There are pay and display machines in each car park - you do NOT need to pay on Sunday. See you Sunday! This beautiful and scenic trail race is approximately 7 miles. Starting from Millshield Picnic Area, the race will leave from the Bay of Plenty, past Henry’s Plantation and The Meadow to Cronkley Bay. The course will then take in the damn wall (leaving Northumberland County and Entering Durham County) and process along the South Shore to Pow Hill Country Park. Here the runners will turn around and run back to Millshield Picnic Area i.e. Out and Back. You can see the route and landmarks by clicking SEE MAP. Derwent Reservoir lies within the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the border between County Durham and Northumberland, and, after Kielder Reservoir, is the second largest reservoir in the region. It supplies 28 million gallons (127 million litres) of water every day to the homes and industries of much of Wearside and South Tyneside. All proceeds will go towards Water Aid whose vision is a world where everyone has safe water and sanitation. The race will be hosted by Run Peterlee and will be supported by Northumbrian Water Group.
