Rolling through the North Derbyshire countryside and the Peak District National Park, the route sees runners tackle 1,675ft of ascent across our stunning and testing course. Starting at The Hyde Park Inn at the aptly named 'hill top' area of Dronfield, The Big Dipper heads out through the village of Barlow, towards Shillito Woods and then climbs up and through the hamlet of Unthank, before heading back into Barlow and skirting the edge of Holmesfield. The race takes place on closed roards surrounded by stunning countryside vistas and the north eastern edges of The Peak District National Park. Expecting a sprint finish? Think again. there's a sting in the tail as runners head back uphill back to the Hyde Park Inn for a well earned refreshment.

Off-road parking is available within 2km of the start.
An iconic Big Dipper technical t-shirt is included in the entry fee. Registration will open at 8:30am for runners to collect their race number. Prizes for male and female winners and age categories. £100 course record prize. New for 2025 is our £100 best PB prize- open to all runners who have raced the Big Dipper in the past. A support runner will be behind/with the final runner. The race has a 3 hour 30 minute cut off time, after which marshals will stand down and roads will be re-opened. There is also the Mini Dipper fun run, setting off shortly after the main race, on a 2k route with a goodie bag for all finishers. Enter on the day. £5.
