Leeds 5K & Club Championship (NOV '22)
Race 5K for yourself and your club!
We’re ending the year with something a bit different; a 5K 'Beat The Clock' handicap. At the start (7:30pm) the race clock will be set to 35:00 and will count down to zero. To win, you need to set off as late as possible AND reach the finish line before the clock reaches zero. You decide when you want to set off, based on how long you think it will take you to run 5K (taking into account the conditions, the nature of the course and your current level of fitness), but your aim is to finish before the clock reaches zero. So, if you think you will take 26:30, then maybe set off when there’s 26:31 on the clock. If you think you will be 16:45, then maybe set off when there’s 16:46 on the clock. The winner will be the last person to set off AND finish before the clock hits zero! In essence, it’s a game of chicken: if you want to beat your club mate/friend/enemy/partner, then you need to wait, and set off after your rival. However, leave it too late, and fail to finish before the clock reaches 00:00 and it’s game over! Don't worry if you fail to beat the clock as you will still get your 5K time as usual. And don’t worry if you don’t want to take part; just start whenever you like and finish in your own time and you will still get your 5K time as usual. If you have a previously issued RED 5K race number (e.g. from 2020-21) you can use that again in 2022 (you must record this number on your entry form). If you have a previously issued 5K number in a different colour, this is no longer valid and can be swapped for a free RED 5K race number at Registration the first time you race. All entrants are entitled to one free number replacement in a 12 month period. Subsequent replacements will be charged at £4 thereafter. IF THE RACE IS CANCELLED AS A RESULT OF COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS, YOUR PLACE WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY TRANSFERRED TO A NEW RESCHEDULED DATE.
